PoolBox V4

Smart pool control and automation system.

What is PoolBox

PoolBox can measure pH, ORP and water temperature, and control equipment associated with the pool. Its relays are not simple switches: once a function is assigned in Ysland, the device applies the internal logic for filtration, pH dosing, disinfection or other configured functions.

What this manual covers

This document covers the physical installation. Functions, setpoints, algorithms, schedules and calibrations are configured later in the Ysland platform.

Contents

You can follow the complete manual or go directly to a specific procedure.
1

Before you begin

Check the materials and plan the installation before opening the unit.

Check the supplied items

  • PoolBox V4 and serial number.
  • pH and ORP probes, if included in the kit.
  • 3-wire temperature probe.
  • Saddles, probe holders and thermowell, according to the supplied kit.
  • Required mounting hardware and cable glands.

Decide what you will control

Before wiring, identify the equipment to be connected to PoolBox: filtration, salt chlorinator, peristaltic pumps, lighting or other auxiliary equipment.

Remember: complete the physical wiring first. Then assign each relay's function in Ysland.

DANGER · 230 V~
Installation must be carried out by qualified personnel. Before opening the panel or connecting any conductor, disconnect the power supply and verify that no voltage is present.

Sequence

  1. Identify the circuit that will supply PoolBox.
  2. Switch off the relevant circuit breaker, residual-current device or isolator.
  3. Label or lock out the switchgear where appropriate.
  4. Use a suitable instrument to verify that no voltage is present.
  5. Do not restore power until step 12.

Protective devices

  • 30 mA residual-current device.
  • Circuit-breaker protection suitable for the incoming supply.
  • Do not work on PoolBox while it is energized.
  • Do not install where the unit will be directly exposed to rain, intense sunlight or condensation.

Relays and electrical wiring

The logical function is assigned later in Ysland. This section covers the physical wiring.
WITH F1/F2 FUSE

Switched 230 V~ output

Install F1 for R1 or F2 for R2 and use terminals 1–2.

1
2
3

Typical use: a compatible 230 V~ load, such as a peristaltic pump or salt chlorinator.

WITHOUT F1/F2 FUSE

Dry contact

Physically remove F1/F2 and use terminals 2–3.

1
2
3

Typical use: a run input, contactor coil or self-powered unit.

Critical rule: To use R1/R2 as a dry contact, the corresponding fuse must be physically removed. Do not apply an external supply to an output configured as a powered output.

9

Current measurement · I/P+ / I/P−

Shows the actual operating state of the filtration system.

What it provides

It can show whether the pump is actually running, record effective filtration time and support functions such as dirty-filter detection.

Operating limit

This guide uses a recommended operating limit of 25 A.

The wiring method depends on whether the measurement is synchronized with the relay or independent of it.
9A

Two distinct concepts: control and measurement

Keeping them separate shows what is actually happening in the installation.
CONTROLThe relay expresses PoolBox’s command: “I want this equipment to run.”
MEASUREMENTThe I/P circuit reports the actual state: “this equipment is drawing current and is therefore running.”
Recommended installation for filtration with an external manual control: Use a dry contact to control the switching circuit and measure the actual power conductor separately. This allows PoolBox to detect the pump even when it is started manually from the panel.

Installation cases

The three filtration configurations retain the logic of the previous manual, adapted for V4.
Option 1 · Filtration with synchronized detection

PoolBox controls filtration and current measurement is associated with operation commanded by the relay itself.

Filtration relay→Pump start→I/P measurement

Conceptually, this is equivalent to the synchronized option in the previous manual: detection is used when the pump is switched on by PoolBox.

Option 2 · Filtration without dirty-filter detection

PoolBox directly controls the filtration switching circuit without using current measurement to verify operation.

PoolBox relay→Contactor / switching circuit→Pump
Option 3 · Filtration with asynchronous detection

Current measurement is independent of the relay state. This allows the system to detect whether the pump is running, even if it was started by another system.

Independent I/P measurement→Actual operation→Effective time / diagnostics
Salt chlorinator or peristaltic pump supplied at 230 V~

If the equipment is supplied directly from R1/R2: F1/F2 fuse installed → terminals 1–2. Then assign the corresponding function in Ysland.

Self-powered equipment or external contactor

When PoolBox only needs to close a control circuit: remove F1/F2 → terminals 2–3 → dry contact.

11

Checks before energizing

Do not restore power until you have completed the entire checklist.

Electrical

  • Live and neutral correctly connected.
  • Protective earth verified.
  • Terminals tight with no bare copper exposed.
  • Residual-current device and circuit breaker installed.
  • F1/F2 match the selected mode.

Sensors and enclosure

  • pH and ORP connected to their BNC sockets.
  • Temperature connected to VCC / INPUT / GND.
  • Cable glands properly closed.
  • No wire offcuts or tools left inside.
  • Cover properly closed.
Final check: If a relay is to operate as a dry contact, visually confirm that the corresponding fuse has been removed.
12

Restore power and verify

Only after completing the previous checks.

Restore power

  1. Switch the circuit breaker, residual-current device or isolator back on.
  2. Check that PoolBox starts up.
  3. Check the LEDs.
  4. Check that pH, ORP and temperature readings appear.

Status LED

StatusMeaning
Solid redNo 4G connectivity.
Flashing redRetrying connection.
Solid blueStarting up.
Flashing blueUpdating.
Flashing greenReadings in progress / normal.
13

Initial probe stabilization

Avoid making premature adjustments to a newly commissioned installation.

During the first 2 hours of continuous operation small variations in pH and ORP are normal while the electrodes adapt to the water chemistry.

14

Continue configuration in Ysland

The physical installation ends here.

Configure PoolBox

Assign relay functions and configure filtration, dosing, setpoints, calibration, alerts and automation in the platform.

Open Ysland platform ↗
Example: Connecting a peristaltic pump to R1 does not automatically make R1 a hypochlorite output. That function is assigned later in Ysland, after which the relay follows the corresponding logic.
15

Basic maintenance

Post-installation routine.

Cleaning the probes

  • Suggested frequency: once a month.
  • Use a purpose-made solution or distilled water.
  • Do not use abrasive products, strong detergents or alcohol.

Calibration

  • pH: 4.01 and 7.0 buffer solutions.
  • Recommended check every 3–6 months.
  • ORP: verify with a buffer solution when needed.
